Good Friday - Jesus Christ |
Religion has actually convinced people that there’s an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of 10 things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these 10 things, he has a special place full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will send *you* to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever till the end of time…but he loves you.”
— George Carlin
According to the Christian mythology, 2000 odd years ago, they nailed the best guy in the world to two pieces of wood. And now they call it “Good” Friday. How the hell does that make any sense? Shouldn’t it be “Bad Friday” or “Black Friday” or “Miserable Goddamned Friday?” It wasn't a very Good Friday, at-least not for Jesus Christ.
I'm not a Christian, but every year on Good Friday, this thing haunts me and i ask myself just one question.
Why the hell is it a Good Friday and not a Bad Friday? If this question have ever came in your mind, Read on...
Good Friday - Jesus Christ |
Good Friday is a holiday especially for the Christian Community to mourn the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. It is also popularly known as Holy Friday, Black Friday or even Great Friday. The holiday is observed on the Friday preceding the Easter Sunday as a part of the holy week. According to new and the Old Testament the crucifixion of Jesus was on a Friday and the estimated year is calculated based on lunar crucifixion and eclipse model comes around 3rd April A.D. 33, a Friday.
I will share a bit of communication which took place between me and a very good friend of mine named Steven.
Me: Happy Good Friday, Steven.
Steven: What?
Me: I said Happy Good Friday
Steven: Dude, Good Friday is not Happy Good Friday
Me: But it's good, right?
Steven: Ya, Jesus saved us from sin so it was kinda good for the world. But he was crucified too, remember?
Me: But you call it Good Friday. And confuse the heck out of people
Steven: What?

Steven: Ya, Jesus saved us from sin so it was kinda good for the world. But he was crucified too, remember?
Me: But you call it Good Friday. And confuse the heck out of people
Steven: Well, it's good because Christians believe Jesus died for people's sins. And when we remember his death more than 2000 years ago, we are inspired to lead better, sin-free lives
Me: But he still died. That's a sad thing, isn't it?
Steven: Ya, but sometimes good stuff can come from sad things
Me: So why isn't Good Friday happy too?
Steven: Are you ever happy when people die? The fact that Jesus died is sad but then Christians believe that good came out of it. But people are happy on Easter, when Jesus rose from the dead
Me: So you are saying I can wish you Happy Easter but not Happy Good Friday
Steven: Exactly
Me: Does it offend Christians if I wish them Happy Good Friday
Steven: Not really. It sounds weird though. But I guess you took the trouble to remember it's an important day for us, so I should be happy
Me: So you can be happy on Good Friday?
Steven: Well, not really. I am fasting today and you are eating ice-cream. How can that make me happy?
Steven: Ya, but sometimes good stuff can come from sad things

Good Friday - Jesus Christ |
According to the Rev. Ken Collins web site, “if we call it Good Friday, as in English, we are confessing the Christian hope that no tragedy not even death can overwhelm God’s providence, love, and grace.”
Oh right, that makes sense. He allowed his son to die a hideous torturous death because he loved him so much.
Apparently there is some speculation that “Good Friday” was originally “God’s Friday.” Not that it matters.
We all know that Gods love is very strong and forgiveness is such a key, that we can find the good in everything. That’s why it’s “Good Friday”. Many bad things happen because there is evil in the world. Many things we think are bad are really an event that makes changes where good comes from it. We are on this earth for such a short time; many believe the life after this one is the best one. Life eternal in heaven. No Pain, No Sorrow, No Suffering. So how can dying be really bad? I believe it’s Good.
So Happy Good Friday!
God Bless...
